Fourteen Points

President Wilson presented fourteen points that may help stop future wars. One of these points is the freedom to navigate the seas. This point still exists today to a certain extant. Another point was to reduce the military of each country. That point does not exist in today's world. Wilson wanted a world where there was no more secret agreements. However, in today's world there are secret agreements going on. Another point was to create the League of Nations. The League of Nations failed but the United Nations took its place today. Both have similar goals of keeping peace. The point to reduce the size of the military has the best chance to prevent war in my opinion. By reducing the size of the military, countries would be more careful about what conflicts to enter or start. However, the countries would probably put more resources into making that small military stronger.

Political Cartoon

The caption "Germany under all" is refering to the U-boats that Germany used in World War I. The hand under water shows that Germany can reach out into the oceans. The picture also shows fear of being attacked and not see it coming. When I saw this cartoon, I thought that the fingers looked like sea monsters. I also think that the ships in the picture could represent neutral ships like the Lusitania that was sunk by a German U-boat.

Women during World War I

When the men went to war during World War I, women had to take the places of men in the work force. Since the soldiers needed supplies for the war, women took jobs to supply them. By working in factories making aircrafts and munitions, women have proven that they can work just as hard as men can. By the end of the war, women had enjoyed the jobs they had and they now know that they can be just as good as the men.

Armenian Genocide

The genocide began on April 24, 1915 in the Ottoman Empire. The Young Turk Government used World War I as a cover for the genocide. The Turks murdered Armenian leaders on that day. Nationlism drove the Truks to kill the Armenians. Propaganda from the Ottoman Empire also encouraged the Turks to take action against the Armenians. Armenians were be drafted into the military to be killed and they would go on death marches.

I was not at all surprised about the genocide. Humans always believe that they are better than the other person. It is sad that so many died without a legitimate reason but what else is to be expected when the majority believes in nationlism.
